If this is your first time, we recommend you start with the daily 'Solve' puzzle. To change which puzzle you are playing, use the MENU at the top of the screen.
Hey, it looks like you're offline. This box will close when your reception is back.
Scrambler takes limited personal data from its players. We save some data in your browser cache so your progress can carry forward if you don't register. If you register as a player, your email is stored as a means to retrieve your username and password if forgotten. Your email is never given to any third parties unless required by the law. If Scrambler is sold in its entirety, we reserve the right to include your email as part of the purchase agreement so as to allow players to maintain their progress.
Your data is kept in a secure database. Your passwords are stored following standard safety measures so as to remain obscured to all parties. If at any time you wish to delete your profile, you can do so from the Profile tab in the menu. Doing so will remove all records of your username, email, and obscured password
The puzzle uses a finite set of words, with some real, but extremely obscure words left out.
If you feel like there is a word that you should be able to play, you can enter it here.
I don't have a strong order decided for building these - but this is what you can expect by February 2024, maybe sooner:
Social groups. You'll be able to add friends and have a dedicated leaderboard tab for the people in your social group.
Sharable log of your puzzle guesses. You know the green and yellow emojis Wordle uses? Yeah like that.
Past Puzzles. You won't get any bonuses from playing them, but you will get the base points.
A real domain name. This will also come with a paid server, so there's no waiting for a puzzle to load
A new game-mode for finding all possible answers of a puzzle. This will feature a sweet branching tree that will mark your progress
Weekly Challenge. A much longer puzzle. This will also be where I test out different possible rule-sets
Suggest a word. You'll highlight the spot in a puzzle and what word you think it's missing. It'll get sent to me to review and add to the puzzle while it's still up
Updating the points system. Instead of getting bonuses as you finish, you'll get them at the end of the day. That way you're ranked against everyone who finished - not just those who finished before you.
Also, bronze medals.
Creating a visual theme for the puzzles. It'll give a unique feel rather than the slightly boring modern look.
After most of the above, I'll be adding some discrete ads. I have an awesome idea in mind for adding an entirely new system to play with, but it'll need to be a full blown game. With a budget.
Well, Scrambler is a little game that I came up with at a house party (I know, real rager). I drew the idea out on the back of a plastic plate and people actually like it!
It's been almost a year since then. I taught myself web-development to be able to build this (I code in Python otherwise) and share with all of you.
I've got HUGE ideas for things I'd like to do with this, but they all need players. Shout-out to my friends who've been my first playtesters. If you're enjoying the game, please share with your friends so I can build all the cool things I want to show you :)
Tell me what's on your mind. If you leave an email I'll be happy to get back to you.
How would you rate that puzzle?
Fastest duration earns gold (2x points).
Top 20% earn silver (1.5x points).
Top 50% earn bronze (1.25x points)
Fewest guesses earns gold (2x points).
Top 20% earn silver (1.5x points).
Top 50% earn bronze (1.25x points)

Scrambler Sixes is a solo challenge of speed versus creativity. Your goal is to fill in 6 new words as quickly as possible, while choosing the most uncommon words that will fit.
Once you've put in your answer, your score will be determined by your time and the appearance frequency that your words have (more below). The lower your score, the higher your points.
One letter needs to change between each word (order doesn't matter), and you can't use the same word twice.
SMART → One in 14,791 words
As you fill in words, they will turn GREEN if they are valid words and have one letter changed. If a word isn't real or doesn't follow the rule, it'll turn ORANGE.
Lastly, there are blue indicators that will appear above or below a letter if you've changed that letter. If you change more than one letter by accident, the indicators will turn orange.
The frequency values are taken from a Python project called wordfreq which is powered by Luminoso. It draws from some very large langauge sources such as Google Books, Wikipedia, and OpenSubtitles.
Scrambler Solve is quite simple. We're going to show you 4 simple puzzles that will teach you everything you need to know!
If it's your first time, I highly recommend you solve these tutorial puzzles:
Every time you make a new word, you need to change a letter. Sometimes the puzzle even shows you what that letter is.
When you make your guess, it will turn GREEN if correct. If it's wrong, it'll turn ORANGE.
Select the empty squares and create a new word. You already know that 'I' is the new letter.
Sometimes you aren't shown what the new letter is and need to pick one.
From REACH, E, A, and H have been used for the new word. Pick one of the remaining letters and one new letter to make a new word.
The puzzles you solve will have more than one word. When working on the 3rd word of a puzzle, you are changing one letter from the 2nd word - NOT from the 1st word.
Try checking your answer after putting in the 2nd word, then again for the 3rd word. Remember, the 3rd word can't be REACH since it is already used in the puzzle.
It's possible to find a 2nd word that won't work for the rest of the puzzle. When you submit a guess, the GREEN and ORANGE colours will tell you whether a solution exists based on the words used so far.
If you use RACER as a 2nd word, you won't be able to make a 3rd word from it. Try to find a word that works!
That's all :)
You can solve puzzles all in one go, or one word at a time - even bottom to top.
There's a daily easy and hard puzzle. And if you created a profile, you can see how you rank against every one who finished the day's puzzle.
